2007 ANNUAL REPORT Prepared by Chief Raymond F. Rafferty The Byram Township Police Department consists of fifteen sworn officers and two records clerks. The department has always been committed to delivering professional police services to its residents. The Byram Township Police Department had several changes during 2007. · Chief Raymond F. Rafferty graduated from the prestigious Federal Bureau of Investigation National Law Enforcement Academy in Quantico Virginia on September 14, 2007. · The Department received a $4,000.00 grant and participated in the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety’s “Click it or ticket mobilization” program along with many other police departments throughout the State and Nation. Byram Police Officers issued 169 safety belt summonses during a two week period in May and June 2007 increasing safety belt usage on Township roads. · The Department received a $4,000.00 grant and participated in New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety’s “Obey the signs or pay the fines campaign” along with other police departments throughout the State. Byram Police Officers issued 121 speeding summonses and other aggressive driving summonses. · The Department received a $5,000.00 grant and participated in the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety’s “Over the limit under arrest year end crack down” Byram Police Officers arrested four people for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and issued 158 motor vehicle summonses during the grant period. · The Department arrested 47 individuals for driving while intoxicated. For this, the Department was awarded a grant of $15,653.84 by the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety as part of the Drunk Driving Enforcement Fund. The Byram Township Police Department will continue to strictly and aggressively enforce the D.W.I. laws to keep our roadways safe and sober. · The Department was awarded $1,588.07 for the replacement of Body Armor by New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice. · The Department completed its seventeenth year instructing D.A.R.E. to the fifth grade classes at the Intermediate School. The D.A.R.E. graduation ceremony and picnic were held in May, 2007. Three Byram Officers are trained as D.A.R.E. instructors. In 2007 Byram Township Police Officers averaged twelve days of in-service training and traveled over 160,000 miles during their patrols. The department will continue to serve the citizens of the township to the best of its ability. The following table illustrates the type and volume of calls for service the Byram Township Police Department responded to in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006.
