The Byram Township Police Department's Patrol Division provides coverage to Byram's 26 square miles 24 hours per day. A minimum of two Police Officers are assigned to each shift. These Officers provide traffic enforcement and answer calls for service. All Officers are trained First Responders and certified with automatic external defibrillators. Byram Police Officers strive to provide our residents with the highest quality police services available.

The Byram Township Police Department appreciates the public's help in solving crimes. You can provide any information you have regarding any crime or suspicious activity anonymously by calling the department at 973-347-4008 or by emailing crimetips@byrampd.org. You are not required to give your name or any information that may identify you if you do not want to. This email address is not to be used for reporting crimes. To report a crime please call the Byram Police Department's dispatcher at (973) 347-4008.

The following is a list of some of the services that the Byram Police offer to our residents:

  • Child car seat installation/check: The majority of child car and booster seats are installed incorrectly creating a potential safety issue. We will inspect your car or booster seat and make sure that it is installed correctly. These checks are conducted by appointment only and take from 15 to 30 minutes depending on child seat model. There is no charge for this service.  Appointments can be made by contacting Officer Lisa  at (973) 347-4008. Additional information on child safety seats can be found at http://www.nj.gov/oag/hts/childseats/index.html.

  • Child identification kits/fingerprinting: Child identification kits and fingerprinting are conducted various times throughout the year at organized events. For the next scheduled event or to have us attend your event please call Lt. Burke at (973) 347-4008.

  • Safe Exchange Location: The Byram Township Police Department has established a safe exchange location in the parking lot in front of the Police Department. The safe exchange location provides our residents a safer place for buyers and sellers to complete sales made on Craigslist, ebay or through any other method. The two parking spaces are marked by safe exchange location signs and are under 24 hour recorded video surveillance. This area will also provide a safer place for child custody exchanges to take place. Police officers will not be involved in or witness any transactions but this does offer our residents the ability to conduct exchanges without having to give the other party their home address. The Byram Township Police Department is located in the back of the municipal complex at 10 Mansfield Dr. Stanhope, NJ 07874 for GPS purposes.

  • Free gun locks: Gun locks are available free of charge to Byram residents. They can be picked up at the Police Station from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday. If you have any questions please contact Lt. Burke at (973) 347-4008.
